A Mountain of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season offer a multitude of activities considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in festive fare, and using patience techniques to not arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous noteworthy developments came out during the holidays, and if you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising announcement, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they could be teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been going on for years, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio famous for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not been disclosed yet.
